bays nationwide

By Laide Akinboade
ABUJA—In order to ensure quick and rapid response during emergency in Nigeria, the Federal Government yesterday, said it had concluded plans to build Emergency Response and Ambulance Bay, ERAB, across the nation.
Director General, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Alhaji Muhammed Sani-Sidi, disclosed this while commissioning ERAB in Abuja.
The NEMA boss said the newly-unveiled ERAB would enhance prompt emergency response in the country.
He said: “As you are aware, time is of the essence when responding to emergencies.
“Timely response to emergencies and disasters can drastically reduce losses to lives and properties.
“As a responsive agency, NEMA has continued to evolve strategies and programmes to ensure the survivability of victims of emergencies and disasters.
“One of such strategies aimed at reducing response time is the emplacement of emergency response facilities at strategic locations.
“The ERAB that is being commissioned today (yesterday) is an improved version of the earlier prototype design.  Our ultimate aim is to promote the ERAB as a national standard and to replicate same across the federation.
“We believe this will go a long way in helping to bring succour to distressed persons, especially in cases of emergencies and disasters.
“Within the meagre resources we have as an agency, we have been trying to put ambulance bay across the country and this would continue.
“I want to assure you that we are going to sustain this effort.”
