CEHRD ORGANISED CAPACITY BUILDING TRAININGS FOR YOUTH LEADERSHIP NETWORKS FROM  KPOR IN GOKANA, OKANA IN ABUA ODUA AND MARINE BASE IN PORT HARCOURT LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS IN RIVERS STATE UNDER THE NSRP OUTPUT TWO PROJECT

As part of activities on the NSRP Output two project: Integrated Response Mechanisms for Reducing Violence Against Women and Youth Unemployment in three Local Government Areas, the CEHRD team organised trainings on Value Reorientation and Non Violence, Participatory Governance and Political Inclusion, Legislative Engagement and Lobbying and Project Monitoring and Tracking for youth leadership networks in Kpor in Gokana, Okana in Abua Odua and Marine in Port Harcourt City Local Government Areas.

The trainings which were held between June and August, 2014, was designed to build their capacity to engage constructively with Government agencies responsible for employment and empowerment programmes in Rivers State. The objectives of the training feeds into the overall goal of reducing corruption and opacity while advocating for transparency, inclusivity and accountability in the delivery of youth employment and empowerment programmes.

During the trainings, the youths, 20 each from the target communities increased their awareness, skills and capacity in constructive and non-violence approach to issues of grievance, active consultation and participatory strategies for inclusion in governance, basic skills on engaging and lobbying legislatures for economic benefits as well as project and budget monitoring and tracking skills.

The training was successful as the participants, trainers and CEHRD project team had a wonderful experience together.
